Day 1 – Airport to Negombo
When you exit the Bandaranaike International Airport, you will be greeted by a Rahmaholidays representative who will serve as your chauffeur for the remainder of this popular 9-day tour in Sri Lanka. Your first stop will be Negombo. It is a city that is situated very close to the airport. Negombo is a multireligious and multiethnic city that has a few beautiful beaches.
According to our Sri Lanka 9 day itinerary, you will spend the first night in the Negombo Hotel.
Day 2 – Negombo to Sigiriya
After a healthy breakfast, you will be driven to Sigiriya from Negombo. Along the way, we will make a stop in Dambulla for you to visit the Dambulla Cave Temple. It is an ancient monastery with many caves. But the attraction goes to five major caves. You can see ancient paintings and many strata in those caves.
Thereafter, you will be driven directly to the hotel in Sigiriya, where you will have an opportunity to rest and relax. In the evening, you will be driven to climb the famous Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Once you reach the top of the rock, you will be able to see the breathtaking scenery of the town as well as the beautiful setting of the sun. The rock fortress was developed by King Kashayapa during his regime in the 5th century AD. Architecture, water technology, urban technology, paintings, and the mirror wall are the things that will make anyone wonder. You will have a great opportunity to capture many interesting and wonderful photos around there.
Day 3 – Sigiriya to Polonnaruwa
On the morning of day three, you will be driven to the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, where you can explore the ruins left by the Chola Dynasty. Polonnaruwa was the second kingdom in Sri Lanka’s history. From the 10th century AD to the 11th century AD, the kingdom was active. Visitors can see many ancient stupas, buildings, ruins, and monasteries.
Next, we will be driven to experience an amazing Sri Lankan rice and curry meal. Following lunch, we will go on a safari to Minneriya National Park. It is a well-known wildlife sanctuary in Sri Lanka where you can see a variety of animals. The place is so popular for gathering Sri Lankan elephants in the dry season. Visitors can see 100–200 groups of wild animals together near the Minneriya Tank. It is considered the largest elephant gathering in Asia.
After the safari, we will be back at your hotel in Sigiriya for the night.
Day 4 – Sigiriya to Kandy
After a delicious breakfast in the Kandy Hotel, we will be driven to the city of Kandy. Along the way, we will visit the Matale spice garden and many other places of interest. The spice garden is the place where you can observe many different kinds of spices that are growing in Sri Lankan soils.
Once in Kandy and before checking in to your hotel, you will have the opportunity to visit the Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya, which are very famous in South Asia. The Royal Botanical Garden is a place where you can observe almost 4,000 plant species. It’s also a nice place to relax and enjoy the scenery.
After that, we will come to your hotel in Kandy for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 5 – Kandy to Ella through Nuwara Eliya
After a sumptuous breakfast, you will have the opportunity to visit the heart of Kandy City. We will first visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic. It is a world-renowned place and a significant place for Buddhists all around the globe. The temple is the resting place of Lord Buddha’s left canine. Next, we will visit Kandy Lake and Kandy View Point.
Thereafter, you will be driven to Nuwara Eliya. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to see some beautiful waterfalls, tea plantations, and a tea factory. We will visit a tea factory and its estate to look after the processing of the famous Ceylon tea. Next, we will visit a few places in Nuwara Eliya according to the remaining time.
If a train is available when you reach Nanu Oya Railway Station, then you will be able to travel to Ella by train, giving you a great opportunity to view some beautiful and breathtaking scenery. The driver will then meet you at the Ella Railway Station. If not, you will be driven to Ella in your default vehicle. You will next check into your hotel in Ella to finish the 5th day of your 9 day Sri Lanka itinerary.
Day – 6 Ella to Tissamaharama
After an enjoyable breakfast, it is planned to leave a little bit earlier as you will be driven to see the Nine Arch Bridge and Little Adams Peak. Nine Arch Bridge was built by the British in the early 20th century. The specialty behind that bridge is that it is made with zero metals. Little Admas Peak is a small mountain with around one hour of hiking. Thereafter the journey will continue to Tissamaharama, where you will have the opportunity for a safari tour at the famous Yala National Park. Along the way, you will spend a few minutes near a waterfall called “Ravana Ella”.
Once at the hotel, you can have your lunch and then prepare for the safari tour. After a fabulous safari ride, you will be driven back to your hotel, where you can rest at your leisure.
You will spend the night in Tissamaharama.
Day 7 – Tissamaharama to Mirissa Beach
After a good breakfast, you will be driven to Mirissa according to our Sri Lanka 9 Day Itinerary. Once in Mirissa, you will check into a hotel and spend the night there. Before arriving at the Mirissa Hotel, we will visit Mirissa Beach and Coconut Tree Hills.
Day 8 – Whale Watching Tour
At your request, we will arrange for you to go on a whale-watching tour in the morning. During the tour, you can observe marine wildlife in the Indian Ocean. As well, you can watch many different whales and dolphins.
Once you return from the tour, you will have the opportunity to enjoy some time at the private beach of the hotel. You will stay the night at the same hotel in Mirissa.
Day 9 – Mirissa to Airport
There is no itinerary planned for the day. After an enjoyable breakfast at the hotel and based on the time of your flight departure, you will leave for the Bandaranaike International Airport in time to catch your flight (at least 2-3 hours before your flight), bringing to an end a wonderful 9 day tour in Sri Lanka
