Day 2 – Sigiriya to Polonnaruwa
On the second day of your 8-day Sri Lanka tour, you will travel from Sigiriya to Polonnaruwa in the morning. It is a historically important city in Sri Lanka. Polonnaruwa was Sri Lanka’s second kingdom, lasting from the 11th to the 13th centuries. Today, you can see the remains, ancient monasteries, relics, and ruins of that kingdom. Those are an absolute wonder to see.
After visiting the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, you will have a lunch that consists of tasty Sri Lankan rice and curries. Then you will travel to Minneriya National Park for an unforgettable wildlife safari tour. This is the place where you can see Asia’s largest elephant gathering. In the dry season, you can see 150–300 wild elephants together near Minneriya Lake. In the evening, you will drive back to the Sigiriya hotel for dinner and your overnight stay.
Day 3 – Sigiriya to Kandy
You will climb the famous Sigiriya Rock Fortress on the third day of your tour. After breakfast at the Sigiriya hotel, the climb will begin. It is somewhat of a walking day, with so many beautiful things to watch. Sigiriya Rock Fortress was the palace of King Kahsyapa, who ruled Sri Lanka in the 5th century AD. His palace and the remaining members are still visible today. The garden technology, water technology, and paintings on the surrounding walls are wonderful to watch.
After the rock climb, we will leave the Sigiriya hotel and travel to Kandy. Before that, you will visit Matale Spice Garden to see a large variety of Sri Lankan spices and their plantations. You will then come to the Kandy hotel in the evening for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 4 – Visit around Kandy City
You will later come to your Kandy hotel for an overnight stay and for dinner.
Day 5 – Kandy to Ella through Nuwara Eliya
Today you will leave beautiful Kandy and travel to Ella through Nuwara Eliya. Those are other famous mountain cities in central Sri Lanka. The journey will begin after you finish your breakfast at the Kandy Hotel. The route is fantastic, with stunning views and greenish tea gardens. During the tour, you will be lucky enough to spend a few minutes in front of a beautiful waterfall. As well, you will also visit a tea garden and its factory. On there, you can pluck tea leaves and learn more about the tea factory’s processes.
Then you will visit Nuwara Eliya city. The city’s elevation is 1881 meters, and the weather is pleasant. Somebody calls Nuwara Eliya “Little England in Sri Lanka.” You will visit a few locations there according to the time left. If you have enough time to catch the train, then you will come to Nanu Oya railway station for a train ride to Ella. If not, you will travel to Ella City by car.
You will stay in a beautiful hotel in Ella City for dinner and finish the day.
